Stars Drew Near and Light Filled the House at the Prophet’s ﷺ Birth?

✿ Compilation: Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Zahid حفظه الله

❖ The Narration

ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ narrates from his mother, whose name was Fāṭimah bint ʿAbd Allāh.
She said:
“I was present at the time of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth. I saw that the entire house was filled with light, and the stars drew near. I became frightened, fearing that the stars might fall upon me.”

❖ Authentication of the Ḥadīth

🔍 This narration is weak (ḍaʿīf).

It has been recorded by:
Abū Nuʿaym in Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah (p. 93)
al-Bayhaqī in Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah (1/111)
al-Haythamī in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (8/220)

al-Haythamī said
:
✦ “It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and within the chain is ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿImrān, who is matrūk (abandoned in ḥadīth).”

It is also mentioned in:
al-Ṭabarī’s Tārīkh (1/454)
Ibn al-Jawzī’s al-Muntaẓam (2/247)
Ibn al-Athīr’s al-Kāmil (1/356)
al-Zurqānī’s Sharḥ al-Mawāhib (1/163)
al-Suhaylī’s al-Rawḍ al-Anuf (1/279)

❖ Important Note

✔ The correct and sound opinion is that the Prophet ﷺ was born during the day, not at night.
Thus, reports that describe nighttime phenomena at the time of his birth conflict with verified accounts.

❖ Conclusion

The narration describing that the house was filled with light and the stars drew near at the Prophet’s ﷺ birth is weak and not reliable, due to the presence of a discredited narrator in its chain. Moreover, it contradicts the established fact that the Prophet ﷺ was born in the daytime.
