Some Authentic and Instructive Stories (Part 5)

Story 41: A Glimpse of the Blessed Night of the Prophet (ﷺ)​

Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrated that one night he stayed at his aunt, Umm al-Mu'mineen Maimunah’s (رضی اللہ عنہا) house. The Prophet (ﷺ) recited the last ten verses of Surah Al-Imran, then performed ablution and began praying. Ibn Abbas followed the same actions and joined him in prayer. After completing twelve rak'ahs and Witr, the Prophet (ﷺ) rested briefly until Fajr.

Lesson:
The deep devotion of the Prophet (ﷺ) to night prayers is a guiding example, and Ibn Abbas’s diligence in following the Prophet’s (ﷺ) practices highlights his commitment to seeking knowledge and blessings.

Story 42: Acceptance of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) Prayer​

Sahib ibn Yazid (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrated that once, his aunt took him to the Prophet (ﷺ) due to an illness. The Prophet (ﷺ) touched his head, prayed for him, and made him drink the leftover water from his ablution. This resulted in excellent health and vitality for Sahib even at ninety-five years old.

Lesson:
The Prophet’s (ﷺ) supplications carry great blessings, and Allah bestows special grace on those who receive his prayers.

Story 43: The Compassionate Visitor of the Sick​

Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضی اللہ عنہ) fell severely ill, and the Prophet (ﷺ) came to visit him with Abu Bakr (رضی اللہ عنہ). Upon finding Jabir unconscious, the Prophet (ﷺ) sprinkled water from his ablution on him, bringing him back to consciousness.

Lesson:
The Prophet’s (ﷺ) compassionate visits to the sick demonstrate the importance of caring for the ill in the community, a practice that carries immense rewards in Islam.

Story 44: The Prophet’s (ﷺ) Final Sermon​

During his final illness, the Prophet (ﷺ) delivered a powerful sermon. He asked for seven water bags to be poured over him for relief, after which he addressed his followers, warning them against practices such as turning graves into places of worship.

Lesson:
This sermon is a reminder of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) concern for his Ummah, encouraging them to follow monotheism and avoid imitating practices of other faiths.

Story 45: A Glimpse of Simplicity in the Battle of Khaybar​

Suwayd ibn Nu'man (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrated that during the Battle of Khaybar, the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions only had ground barley (sattu) to eat. After consuming it, the Prophet (ﷺ) led the Maghrib prayer with just a rinse, demonstrating simplicity even in warfare.

Lesson:
This incident reflects the Prophet’s (ﷺ) dedication to simple living and patience during hardship, teaching the Ummah to prioritize faith over worldly comforts.

Story 46: The Consequence of Neglecting Purity and Backbiting​

Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by two graves, explaining that the deceased were being punished, one for not safeguarding cleanliness during urination and the other for backbiting. He placed palm branches on their graves, hoping the punishment would be lessened.

Lesson:
The importance of purity and avoiding harmful speech is emphasized, as even minor negligence in these areas can have severe consequences.

Story 47: Respecting the Elder’s Priority​

The Prophet (ﷺ) saw in a dream that he was using a miswak. When two people came to him—one older and one younger—he intended to offer it to the younger one but was instructed to give it to the elder.

Lesson:
This story emphasizes respecting elders, a virtue essential in fostering harmony and honor within the community.

Story 48: Economy in Using Water​

When asked about the amount of water necessary for ablution, Jabir (رضی اللہ عنہ) demonstrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) used about one sa’ (around four liters) for a complete ghusl, underscoring minimalism.

Lesson:
The Prophet’s (ﷺ) example discourages wastefulness and promotes conserving resources, even in acts of worship.

Story 49: Musa (علیہ السلام) and the Miraculous Stone​

The Israelites accused Prophet Musa (علیہ السلام) of a physical deformity because he bathed alone. Allah caused a stone to move with Musa’s (علیہ السلام) clothes, allowing the people to see his physical perfection and realize their mistake.

Lesson:
This story reveals Allah’s power to defend the honor of His prophets and emphasizes the value of privacy.

Story 50: The Divine Blessing on Prophet Ayub (علیہ السلام)​

While Prophet Ayub (علیہ السلام) was bathing, Allah showered him with gold locusts. When Allah asked if Ayub (علیہ السلام) was content with his blessings, he replied affirmatively but acknowledged his dependence on Allah’s bounty.

Lesson:
This story illustrates Ayub’s (علیہ السلام) gratitude despite having endured immense hardship and reminds believers to appreciate and seek Allah’s endless bounty.
