◈ If Congregational Prayer is Established During a Meal ◈
Written by: Imran Ayub Lahori
If the congregational prayer is established while one is eating, one should not leave the food. Rather, the person should finish the meal properly and then proceed to Salah.
It is narrated from Ḥaḍrat Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما that the Prophet ﷺ said:
"إذا كان أحدكم على الطعام فلا يعجل حتى يقضى حاجته منه وإن أقيمت الصلاة"
“When any of you is eating, he should not hurry until he has fulfilled his need from it, even if the Iqāmah for prayer is announced.”

[Bukhārī Taʿlīqan: 674, Kitāb al-Adhān: Bāb Idhā Ḥaḍara al-Ṭaʿām wa Uqīmat al-Ṣalāh]
Leaving food unfinished due to the Iqāmah being called is discouraged. One should eat properly and then proceed to the Salah with presence of mind and focus.
