Statement of Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal رحمه الله

Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

I asked Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah:
“Have you seen any of your companions raise their hands in the Qunūt of Witr?”
He replied: “No.”
I further asked: “Not even Yūnus ibn ʿUbayd ibn Dīnār al-ʿAbdī and Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī (may Allah have mercy on them)?”

He answered: “No.”
