❀ Should a Pilgrim Perform the Sacrifice Himself or Delegate It? The Preferred Method ❀
During Ḥajj, is it better for a pilgrim to slaughter the sacrificial animal (hady) himself, or to deposit the money with the authorities/animal sellers for them to do it? Please explain the best method.
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
Both methods of offering hady during Ḥajj are permissible and valid:
① Slaughtering the animal personally – This method is established from the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, as he personally slaughtered some of his sacrificial animals.
② Delegating the slaughter to others – This is also proven from the Sunnah, as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, on certain occasions, had others slaughter on his behalf.
If a pilgrim has the ability and convenience, then slaughtering the animal himself is more virtuous, because:
◈ It involves direct participation in the act of worship.
◈ It reflects closer adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
