Question:
What is the incident involving Shaykh Abū Bakr al-Jazāʾirī and a jinn?
Answer:
Shaykh Abū Bakr al-Jazāʾirī narrates a personal and distressing experience related to a jinn, stating:
“Here, I mention an incident that took place in our home, the pain and effects of which we endured personally. I had an elder sister named Saʿdiyyah. We were very young at that time. In our home, we used to climb from the lower part of the house to the upper level using a rope tied to a date-palm branch. We would pull this branch up through a rope from the roof.”
“One day, my sister attempted to pull the rope but was unable to draw the branch up. As she tugged at it repeatedly, she accidentally fell—and landed on a jinn. It was as if she had harmed the jinn by falling directly upon it. In retaliation, the jinn sought revenge.”
“From then on, the jinn began visiting her repeatedly—two or three times a week, or even more—attacking her in her sleep, attempting to strangle her. My poor sister would flail her arms and legs, struggling violently like a slaughtered goat. The jinn would leave her in a semi-conscious state, barely alive.”
“One day, the jinn spoke through her tongue, declaring that he was doing this because she had harmed him. The torment continued persistently for years until one day the jinn came again and did not spare her—he killed her. This affliction lasted for almost ten years. Eventually, he came and took her life. May Allah have mercy on her and forgive her.”

Shaykh Abu Bakr adds:
“This was an incident I witnessed with my own eyes. The one who sees is not like the one who hears—the eyewitness is free from all doubt.”
