❖ Shayāṭīn Are Not All-Knowing of the Unseen – Guidance Through the Qur’ān ❖

Are the devils (shayāṭīn) all-knowing of the unseen (ʿĀlim al-Ghayb)?
No, they are not. It is narrated from Sayyidunā Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
انطلق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فى طائفة من اصحابه عامدين إلى سوق عكاظ...
_The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم set out with a group of his companions heading towards the market of ʿUkāẓ, at a time when the devils had been cut off from the news of the heavens, and flaming missiles were being hurled at them. The devils returned and said to one another: “What is the matter with you?” They replied: “We have been denied access to the news of the heavens, and flaming missiles have been thrown at us.”
Others among them said: “Something must have occurred that has come between you and the heavenly news. Go east and west and seek out what has happened.”
So they scattered across the earth. Those who headed towards Tihāmah came upon the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم at Nakhlah while he was on his way to the ʿUkāẓ market, and he was leading his companions in the Fajr prayer.
When they heard the Qur’ān, they listened attentively and said: “This is what has come between you and the news of the heavens.”
Then they returned to their people and said:
إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا ﴿١﴾ يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا ﴿٢﴾
“Indeed, we have heard a marvelous Qur’ān. It guides to righteousness, so we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.”
Then Allah revealed to His Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:
قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ [Surah al-Jinn 1]
What was revealed to the Prophet was the very statement of the jinn themselves._
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ḥadīth No. 733]
This noble ḥadīth clearly proves that shayāṭīn and jinn are not possessors of the unseen (ʿĀlim al-Ghayb). If they had access to the unseen, they would have already known that a significant event had taken place, and there would have been no need to search or speculate about it. Their reaction, “Go and find out what has happened,” is undeniable proof of their ignorance of the unseen.
