Question:


What is the ruling on shaving the beard?


Answer:


Shaving the beard is harām and a major sin.


❀ Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr رحمه الله (d. 774H) said:
ذلك محرم بالإجماع.
“Shaving the beard is harām by consensus.”
(al-Bidāyah wa al-Nihāyah: 18/615)


✅ Conclusion:
By the unanimous agreement of the scholars, shaving the beard is prohibited and considered a major sin.
