Shari‘ah Rulings on Buying and Selling Cloth

It is permissible to sell:
➤ One type of cloth in exchange for another,
➤ Or to sell two meters of cloth for one meter,
➤ Whether the cloths are of the same kind or different kinds,
➤ Whether the transaction is on credit or spot payment.
This is allowed because cloth is not included among the categories of items in which riba (usury) is prohibited — such as gold, silver, food staples, etc.
Thus, selling cloth with a difference in type or quantity is lawful.
