Question
What is the ruling, in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah, on those who during salah:
- Wear trousers or garments hanging below the ankles.
- Do not say “Āmīn” aloud.
- Do not sit in tawarruk position in the last rak‘ah.
- Do not say “Allāhu Akbar” and “Astaghfirullāh” aloud after salah.
Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh. Ammā ba‘d:
All of the above acts go against the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
- Garment below ankles – The Prophet ﷺ forbade letting one’s garment hang below the ankles out of pride, and his Sunnah was to keep it above the ankles.
- Saying “Āmīn” aloud – This is established from authentic hadith in congregational prayer.
- Tawarruk in the last rak‘ah – This sitting position is proven from the Prophet ﷺ in the final tashahhud of the last rak‘ah in certain prayers.
- Loud dhikr after salah – Saying “Allāhu Akbar” and “Astaghfirullāh” audibly after salah is established from the Prophet ﷺ and his companions.
Those who neglect these matters are, in reality, opposing the Sunnah, and such neglect is not correct.
