Shar‘i Ruling on Claiming Allowance Without Fulfilling Representation

Authored by: Saudi Fatwa Committee

❖ Taking Representation Allowance Without Performing the Duty

If you receive an allowance for representation but fail to fulfill the actual duty, then it is obligatory upon you to return that amount. Since you did not perform the representative role, you are not entitled to the allowance.

If returning the amount is not feasible, then it must be spent in charitable causes, such as giving it to the poor, and you must also engage in repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah. It is essential to avoid repeating such actions in the future.
