Sharʿi Ruling on Performing Salah in Grave-Based Mosques

✦ Ruling on Praying in Mosques Built Over Graves ✦

Source:
Fatāwā al-Dīn al-Khāliṣ, Vol. 1, p. 117

❖ Question:

What is the Sharʿi ruling on performing Ṣalāh in mosques built over graves?

❖ Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!

✦ Clear Sharʿi Ruling:

Praying in mosques constructed over graves is, by unanimous agreement, impermissible.

This prohibition is universally acknowledged among the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah, except for some later innovators (muta’akhkhirīn bidʿatīs) who blindly follow unverified practices and possess no sound evidence for their views.

✦ Referenced Clarification:

A detailed explanation of this issue has been provided in Issue No. 78 of the same fatwa collection.
Readers are encouraged to consult that section for in-depth understanding.
