◈ Guidelines for Announcing and Declaring a Lost Item (Luqṭah) ◈
Every item that holds value among people and is generally taken great care of, must be publicly announced when found. However, if the item is of no significant value—such that people usually do not pursue or pay much attention to such things—then announcing it is not obligatory.
The value and worth of items vary depending on people’s conditions and social classes. In this matter, customs and social norms (ʿurf and ʿaadah) hold decisive authority and serve as the determining factors.
