Is it permissible in Sharīʿah to watch a game or entertainment event in person? What guidance does Islam provide on this matter?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
If the game is jihād-related or otherwise permissible, and it is free from the following prohibitions:
✿ Immodesty (bey-ḥayāʾī)
✿ Music
✿ Women participating in an un-Islamic manner
✿ Interference with Ṣalāh
✿ Wasting time
✿ Neglect of religion
…then participating in such a game or watching it is permissible in Sharīʿah.
The evidence for this is the incident of Umm al-Muʾminīn Sayyidah ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها, when she watched the Abyssinians playing.
