In a case where the groom was not present and his appointed representative (wakīl) carried out the offer (ījāb) and acceptance (qabūl) of the marriage contract — after some time, when the groom returns, should the wakīl now convey the offer and acceptance to him? If so, how should it be done?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd:
If the groom had formally authorised the wakīl to perform the marriage contract on his behalf, then the ījāb and qabūl conducted by the wakīl are valid and sufficient.
There is no need to repeat the offer and acceptance, nor to transfer it to the groom afterward.
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam biṣ-ṣawāb.
