Sharʿī Method for Disposing Old Pages of the Qur’an: Burial or Burning?

Question
If the Noble Qur’an becomes very old, should its pages be buried, or should they be burned and then let flow into water?
Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
✿ There is no explicit mention of this matter in any marfūʿ ḥadīth (directly attributed to the Prophet ﷺ).
✿ However, Ḥaḍrat ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān (RA), on a certain occasion, ordered that the Qur’anic copies be burned.
