❖ Harsh Temperament and Harsh Speech


Definition:


  • A harsh-natured person is one who is naturally tough in behavior.
  • A harsh-spoken person uses abrasive and quarrelsome language.

Such People Will Not Enter Paradise


Harithah bin Wahb (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"A harsh-natured and quarrelsome person will not enter Paradise."
[Abu Dawood: 4801, Kitab al-Adab, Bab fi Husn al-Khuluq]


❖ Traits of the People of Paradise and Hell


Harithah bin Wahb (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Shall I inform you of the dwellers of Paradise? They are every weak person whom people consider insignificant, but if he swears by Allah, Allah fulfills it. And shall I inform you of the people of Hell? Every quarrelsome, arrogant, and wealth-hoarding person."
[Bukhari: 4918; Muslim: 2853]


❖ Excellence of Good Character and Condemnation of Obscenity


Abu Darda (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"On the Day of Judgment, the heaviest thing in the believer's scale will be good character. Allah dislikes the one who uses obscene and foul language."
[Tirmidhi: 2002]


❖ Paradise is Forbidden for Harsh and Cold-hearted People


Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Shall I tell you who is forbidden to the Fire and for whom the Fire is forbidden? It is for every gentle, kind, approachable, and soft-hearted person."
[Tirmidhi: 2488]


❖ Breaking Promises


Qur’anic Command:


وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْئُولًا
"And fulfill the covenant. Verily, the covenant will be questioned about."
[Surah Bani Isra’il: 34]


Sign of Hypocrisy:


◈ The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Among the signs of a hypocrite is that when he makes a promise, he breaks it."
[Bukhari: 34; Muslim: 48]


❖ The Incident of Badr and Honoring Promises


Hudhayfah and his father (RA) were detained by the Quraysh on their way to Badr. The disbelievers made them swear not to fight alongside the Prophet ﷺ.


When they reported this to the Prophet ﷺ, he said:
"Go to Madinah. We will honor their oath and seek Allah’s help against them."
[Muslim: 1787]


❖ Pointing a Weapon at a Muslim


Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever points a weapon at his brother, the angels curse him, even if he is his blood brother."
[Muslim: 2616]


❖ Consequences of Mishandling Weapons


Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"What if Satan snatches it from his hand and he ends up killing someone and thus falls into Hell?"
[Muslim: 2617]


❖ Consuming Orphans’ Wealth


Qur’anic Warning:


إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ الْيَتَامَىٰ ظُلْمًا...
"Indeed, those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly are only consuming fire into their bellies, and they will burn in a blazing flame."
[Surah An-Nisa: 10]


◈ The Prophet ﷺ included consuming the orphan’s wealth among the seven destructive sins.


Definition of an Orphan:


A child whose father dies before the child reaches puberty.


❖ Incompetence in Administration


Abu Dharr (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"O Abu Dharr, I see you as weak, and I love for you what I love for myself. Never take leadership over two people, and never assume responsibility over an orphan’s wealth."
[Muslim: 1826]


❖ Sponsoring an Orphan is a Great Virtue


Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The one who cares for an orphan, whether related or not, will be with me in Paradise like these two fingers."
He gestured with his index and middle fingers.
[Muslim: 2983]


❖ Supporting Widows and the Poor


Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said:
"One who looks after widows and the poor is like the one who strives in the cause of Allah, like the one who prays all night and fasts all day."
[Bukhari: 6007; Muslim: 2982]
