Seven Hundred-Fold Reward for Good Deeds in the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, Vol. 1, p. 584

❖ Question:

Is it true that the reward for good deeds increases seven hundred times during the days of Dhul-Hijjah?

✿ Answer:

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd!

Sayyidunā Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:
ما من أيام أفضل عند الله ولا العمل فيهن أحب إلى الله عز وجل من هذه الأيام يعني من العشر فأكثروا فيهن من التهليل والتكبير وذكر الله وإن صيام يوم منها يعدل بصيام سنة والعمل فيهن يضاعف بسبعمائة ضعف

(Al-Targhīb, vol. 2, p. 199)

✿ Translation:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

❀ The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most excellent days in the sight of Allah.
❀ Performing righteous deeds during these days is more beloved to Allah than doing so in any other days.
❀ Therefore, recite frequently Lā ilāha illallāh and Allāhu Akbar.
❀ Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.
❀ Fasting even one day among these ten equals fasting for an entire year.
❀ And a single good deed performed during these days is multiplied seven hundred times in reward.

This is what I hold to be correct, and Allah knows best what is right.
