Source: “Wālidayn aur Aulād ke Ḥuqūq” by Shaykh Jāwīd Iqbāl Sīālkotī

❖ Separate Your Children's Beds When They Reach the Age of Ten

◈ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

واضربوهم عليها وهم أبناء عشر وفرقوا بينهم فى المضاجع.

📚 Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Bāb Matā Yuʾmar al-Ghulām bi al-Ṣalāh: 495

“When your children reach the age of ten, strike them (lightly) for abandoning prayer, and separate their beds.”

✦ Commentary from Scholars:

◈ Shaykh Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī رحمه الله said:

“Whether they are boys or girls, it is obligatory to separate their sleeping places — regardless of whether both are of the same gender or opposite.”

📚 Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ with ʿIlal al-Albānī, Vol. 1, p. 181

◈ ʿAllāmah al-Manāwī رحمه الله stated in Fayḍ al-Qadīr:

“Separate your children in their sleeping places when they reach ten years of age, fearing the trials of lust — even if they are sisters.”

📚 Marʿāh al-Mafātīḥ, Vol. 2, p. 278

◈ Shaykh Muḥammad bin Jamīl Zīnū رحمه الله said:

This ḥadīth teaches us that when children reach ten years of age, their beds must be separated.
At this age, they should neither sleep with parents nor with siblings in the same bed.
This is the age where sexual awareness may begin, hence for proper tarbiyah (upbringing), it is essential that each child sleeps separately.
Love has its place, but ḥadīth must be acted upon.

✔ Summary:

① At age ten, children must be trained in self-awareness and modesty.
② Their beds must be separated — regardless of gender.
③ This instruction is to protect them from early exposure to inappropriate physical closeness.
④ Following this guidance is essential for healthy Islamic upbringing.
