Seeking a Sorcerer for the Treatment of Magic

Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

Is it permissible for me to visit a sorcerer to seek treatment for magic performed on me?

Answer:

❌ It is not permissible.

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune-teller and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (ﷺ)."

This narration has been reported by Imam al-Tabarani in "Al-Kabir", as well as by Imam al-Tirmidhi and Abu Ya'la with a reliable chain of transmission. The narrators of this Hadith are trustworthy, and these words are from al-Tabarani.

Conclusion:

Visiting a sorcerer, magician, or soothsayer to seek treatment for magic is impermissible in Islam. Believing in their words contradicts the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah and can lead to disbelief. Instead, one should rely on authentic Islamic remedies, such as reciting Quranic verses, Ruqyah, and seeking Allah's help through dua and righteous deeds.
