Scholarly Opinions on Jinn Entering the Human Body

Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha حفظ اللہ
What are the scholars’ views on jinn entering the human body?
Answer:

Shaykh Muhammad al-Hamid رحمہ اللہ said:
“When the jinn are beings of extremely subtle bodies, it is not impossible—neither rationally nor scripturally—for them to enter the bodies of the children of Adam. Subtle things can penetrate dense matter. For example, air definitely enters our bodies, just as fire passes through iron, electricity passes through wires, and water seeps through soil, sand, and clothes—even though they are not as subtle as air or electricity. The texts that have come regarding the entry of jinn into human bodies have reached such a level of abundance that turning away from them due to the denials of some or their unreasonable statements is not correct. This is because the true revelation has informed us of this reality. Moreover, there are countless incidents that attest to the entry of jinn into human bodies, and to deny this is to reject something that is firmly established both rationally and textually, thus revealing the falsehood of the denier’s own claims.”

Imam Ibn Hazm رحمہ اللہ said:
“It is indeed correct that Shaytan touches the person whom Allah has given him power over, as mentioned in the Qur’an. Through this ‘touch,’ he can block the senses and affect the vapors that rise to the brain. This condition is well known to those who suffer from it, and there is no difference of opinion among them about its existence. Then Allah creates for that person the state of epilepsy and confusion—this is the summary of what is found in the text of the Qur’an and is confirmed by direct observation.”
