❖ Question

❖ Answer

Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba’d!

Yes, saying “Ameen” is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah (emphasized Sunnah), and it is especially important to say it when the Imam says “Ameen”.

Evidence from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA), the Prophet ﷺ said:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 780; Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 410, 77)

Translation:
“When the Imam says ‘Ameen,’ then you should also say ‘Ameen,’ for if a person’s ‘Ameen’ coincides with the ‘Ameen’ of the angels, all his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Saying “Ameen” at the Same Time

Both the Imam and the followers should say “Ameen” at the same time.

Evidence:
The Prophet ﷺ said:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 782; Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 410, 86)

Translation:
“When the Imam says: ‘Not the path of those who have incurred [Your] anger, nor of those who are astray,’ then you should say ‘Ameen.’”
