Say Bismillah Before Undressing: A Shield from Shayṭān

✿ Protection from Shayṭān While Undressing: A Prophetic Method ✿
Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

How can I undress in a way that Shayṭān does not see my body?

✔ Answer:

Sayyidunā ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنهما narrate that the Prophet ﷺ said:

"ستر ما بين أعين الجن و عورات بني آدم إذا وضع أحدهم ثوبه أن يقول: باسم الله"
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Ḥadīth 606 | Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ, Ḥadīth 3610]

“The veil between the eyes of the jinn and the nakedness of the children of Ādam is that when one of them removes his clothing, he should say: Bismillāh.”

❖ Explanation:

✔ Saying "Bismillāh" at the time of removing clothing serves as a spiritual seal over the body.
✔ Shayṭān cannot breach this protection.
✔ This practice acts as a veil between the jinn and human modesty.

❖ Scholarly Note:

Some scholars, adhering to the apparent wording of the ḥadīth, recommend saying only "Bismillāh" (without adding "al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm") when undressing.

✔ Summary:

To protect oneself from the gaze of Shayṭān while undressing:

Say "Bismillāh" before removing clothes.
➤ This simple act places a divine barrier between your body and the jinn.
➤ It is a sunnah practice rooted in Prophetic guidance for modesty and spiritual protection.
