Rulings on Sujood: Language of Du‘a, Salawat, and Qur’anic Recitation

🕋 Rulings on Du‘a, Sending Salawat, and Reciting Qur’an in Sujood
✍️ Derived from: Fatawa Ulama-e-Hadith, Kitab al-Salah, Volume 1

❖ Question:

Can a person recite du‘a in Urdu, Punjabi, or other non-Arabic languages during sujood (prostration)?
Is it permissible to send salawat (durud) on the Prophet ﷺ or recite Qur’anic supplications during sujood?

❖ Shar‘i Ruling:

① Language of Du‘a in Sujood:

✅ Only Arabic is permitted for supplications in sujood during Salah.
❌ It is not permissible to make du‘a in Urdu, Punjabi, or any non-Arabic language while in Salah.

Sending Salawat in Sujood:

❌ Salawat (durud) is legislated to be recited in the first and second sitting (Qa‘dah) of the prayer.
✔ It is not prescribed to send salawat during sujood.

Reciting Qur’an in Ruku‘ and Sujood:

❌ Reciting Qur’anic verses in ruku‘ (bowing) and sujood (prostration) is explicitly prohibited.

📖 Hadith Reference:

"Beware! I have been prohibited from reciting the Qur’an during ruku‘ and sujood. So glorify your Lord during ruku‘, and make du‘a abundantly during sujood, for your du‘as are worthy of being accepted."

(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Salah, Hadith 479)

❖ Summary:

Du‘a in sujood must be in Arabic only.
Salawat should be recited in Qa‘dah, not in sujood.
Recitation of Qur’an is prohibited in both ruku‘ and sujood.
✔ In sujood, one should glorify Allah and make heartfelt du‘a, but within the bounds of Arabic language.
