Question
Is it possible for a prayer to become qadhā’ (missed and required to be made up)? If so, when and at what time should it be performed?Answer
- Immediate Qadhā’ upon Forgetfulness or Oversleeping
If a person forgets a prayer or oversleeps and thus misses it, then as soon as they remember or awaken, they should immediately perform that prayer. Performing it at that very moment is considered its qadhā’, and that time is its correct time of offering. - No “Lifetime Qadhā’” for Long-Neglected Prayers
However, regarding prayers that were missed months or years ago, there is no evidence in the Sharīʿah to support repeating those prayers or performing a so-called “lifetime qadhā’” to compensate for them.
