Ruling on Wudu with Super Glue on Hand After Attempted Removal

❖ Question:

My friend had a significant amount of super glue (Elfy) spilled on his hand. Despite trying hard to remove it, some glue remains. He is asking whether his wudu (ablution) is valid in this condition, given his sincere effort to remove the glue.

❖ Answer by:

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakīl Nāṣir (ḥafiẓahullāh)
Research Scholar Wājid Iqbāl (ḥafiẓahullāh)

❖ Ruling:

If one tries his best to remove the Elfy from the skin, but a portion remains despite sincere effort, the wudu is valid.

❖ Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakīl Nāṣir (ḥafiẓahullāh) states:

"Wudu will be valid."

❖ Qur’anic Evidence:

"فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ"
“So fear Allah as much as you are able.”
(Sūrah al-Taghābun, 64:16)

❖ Explanation:

  • It is necessary in wudu that water reaches the entire surface of the required limbs.
  • Any barrier (like glue) that prevents water from reaching the skin must be removed.
  • However, if after maximum effort, one is unable to remove all of it, the Sharīʿah provides concession, based on the verse above.

✿ Conclusion:

◈ If someone makes a genuine and complete effort to remove glue but cannot eliminate it entirely, then:
His wudu is valid
✔ He is considered excused (maʿdhūr) in this matter, as he has fulfilled his obligation to the best of his ability

❖ Summary:
