❖ Question:
If a person has performed Masah (wiping) over socks or shoes during Wudu and later removes them, is it necessary to repeat the entire Wudu? Is it sufficient to wash only the feet, or can the person pray in that state?❖ Answer:
In this matter, scholars hold three different opinions, and followers of each view exist:① First Opinion:
Some scholars state that if the socks or shoes are removed, the Wudu becomes invalid, and it is mandatory to perform the entire Wudu again.② Second Opinion:
According to some scholars, only washing the feet is sufficient, and the rest of the Wudu remains valid.③ Third Opinion (Preferred View):
This is the opinion preferred by Shaykh al-Albani, Hafiz Ibn Hazm, and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمهم الله). They maintain that if someone has performed Masah over the socks or shoes and later removes them, the Wudu remains valid, and there is no need to perform Wudu again nor to wash the feet.Their argument is based on the analogy that just as wiping over the head during Wudu remains valid even if the head is later shaved, similarly, removing the socks or shoes does not affect the validity of Wudu.
Summary:
The preferred and stronger opinion is that if you have wiped over socks or shoes during Wudu and then removed them, your Wudu remains valid, and you may offer Salah in that state without needing to redo Wudu or wash your feet.وَاللّٰهُ أَعْلَمُ
