❖ Woman Sitting with Husband’s Relatives ❖
This writing is excerpted from the book "500 Questions and Answers for Women" based on the Fatwas of the Scholars of the Haramain, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.
Is it permissible for a woman to sit with her husband’s close relatives while she observes proper Islamic covering according to the Sunnah?
It is permissible for a woman to sit with her husband’s brothers, paternal cousins, and similar relatives if she observes the proper Shar'i hijab. The Shar'i hijab entails that the face, head, and entire body are covered, as a woman is entirely awrah and a source of potential temptation.
However, sitting in seclusion (khalwah) or in a manner that may lead to suspicion or accusation of immorality is not permissible. Similarly, it is unlawful for her to participate in gatherings involving music, singing, or any form of amusement and entertainment.
