(Excerpt from the book: “500 Questions & Answers for Women” based on the Fatwas of the Scholars of the Two Holy Mosques, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem)
What is the ruling on listening to certain beneficial programs, such as “Sayings of the Salaf,” which contain music?
There is no harm in benefiting from such programs as long as the music is muted or avoided—for example, by turning off or locking the radio when the music begins and resuming once it ends. This is because music is from the instruments of amusement and diversion (Ālāt al-Lahw).
May Allah make it easy to abandon such things and protect us from their evil.
