Ruling on Vomiting While Fasting

❖ Question:

Does vomiting invalidate the fast?

❖ Answer:

A fasting person may face situations beyond their control, such as:
  • Bleeding from a wound
  • Nosebleed
  • Vomiting
  • Involuntary entry of water or petrol into the throat
None of these invalidate the fast, because they occur without intention or choice.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever is overcome by vomiting, there is no make-up upon him. But whoever vomits intentionally, must make up the fast."
[Authentic Hadith]

Thus:✔ Unintentional vomiting does not break the fast, and no make-up (qaḍāʾ) is required.
✖ But if a person induces vomiting deliberately, then the fast is invalidated, and qaḍāʾ becomes obligatory.
