“Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them.”
[Surah Al-A’raf: 27]
Jinn are part of the unseen world, and their reality and nature are unknown to us. However, we do know that they coexist with humans and can dominate the human spirit.
When someone afflicted by possession (asby) is struck, it is the possessing jinn that experiences pain, not the human. In fact, the jinn may speak through the possessed person or control their movements.
And Allah knows best.
Question:
Some people use wolf’s skin on individuals afflicted with epilepsy or possession by jinn, claiming that the jinn either flee or die upon smelling it. What is the ruling on such practices?Answer:
I do not consider this practice permissible, and I believe it is not beneficial either. Furthermore, I do not have faith in its effectiveness. However, it is narrated to us that jinn fear wolves and flee from them. It is also said that when a wolf sees jinn roaming on the ground, it attacks and tears them apart. While this belief is widespread among common people and many stories are shared about it, I neither confirm nor entirely reject its possibility.Understanding the Nature of Jinn
Jinn remain hidden from human sight, as Allah states in the Quran:“Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them.”
[Surah Al-A’raf: 27]

Proper Treatment for Possession
The correct method for treating someone afflicted by possession is through:- Recitation of the Quran:
- Using the words of Allah, especially by reciting specific verses that cause the jinn distress.
- This method is particularly effective when performed by a person of piety, adherence to the Sunnah, and deep knowledge of the Quranic verses that impact jinn.
- Supplications and Approved Remedies:
- Authentic supplications (duas) and permissible remedies can also be effective.
- Some individuals have gained recognition for treating possession through Quranic recitations. Their presence alone may instill fear in the jinn, causing the afflicted person to fall unconscious or experience relief.
Wolf’s Skin as a Treatment
If wolf’s skin or any part of its body is tested and proven to cause harm to the jinn or expel them, it could theoretically be included among permissible remedies (adwiyah mubahah). However, this is conditional upon the following:- Proven Effectiveness:
- There must be clear evidence from experience that it works.
- Compliance with Shariah:
- The method must not involve anything prohibited, such as magic, jinn collaboration, or practices used by magicians and charlatans.
Conclusion:
While wolf’s skin might have some anecdotal effectiveness in dealing with jinn, its use requires verification. The primary and most reliable treatment for possession remains the recitation of the Quran and authentic supplications. Any alternative treatment must comply with Islamic principles and avoid prohibited practices. And Allah knows best.
