Ruling on Water Changed Due to Long Stagnation for Wudu
(Source: Fatawa Arkan al-Islam)
What is the ruling on water whose state has changed due to remaining in one place for a long time?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
If water has been stationary for a long time and its color, smell, or taste has changed — but not due to the mixing of any external impure substance, rather only because of the long stagnation — then:
✿ This water remains pure.
✿ Even though its characteristics have changed, since the change is not due to impurity or any external contaminant but only due to the passage of time:
◈ Performing wudu with it is permissible.
◈ The wudu will be valid.
◈ There is no harm in using it.
