Ruling on Using New Water for Wiping the Ears in Wudu

Source: Ahkam wa Masail in the Light of the Qur'an and Hadith, Volume 02

✿ Ruling on Wiping the Ears in Wudu

In the act of Wudu, it is sufficient to use the same water employed for wiping the head (masah) to also wipe the ears. There is no authentic narration that requires using separate water specifically for wiping the ears.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"The ears are part of the head."
(Reported by al-Daraqutni: 1/98)
This Hadith signifies that there is no need to use new water for the ears, as they are included in the ruling for the head.
Shaykh al-Albani رحمه الله authenticated this narration. (Silsilah al-Sahihah: 360)

✿ Commentary of the Scholars

Furthermore, the narration that suggests using separate water for wiping the ears has been classified as Shaadh (irregular and unreliable) by Hafiz Ibn Hajar رحمه الله in Bulugh al-Maram under the chapter of Wudu.

❖ Summary

Wiping the ears in Wudu can be done with the same water used for wiping the head.

There is no authentic narration proving the obligation of using separate water for the ears.

➌ The Hadith "The ears are part of the head" has been authenticated by Shaykh al-Albani رحمه الله.
