In the village of Khanna Liyānah (District Sheikhupura), funds were collected by the locals for the construction of a mosque. However, a portion of this collected money was later used for organizing a tablīghī (preaching) gathering, including covering the expenses of a scholar (Maulvī Ṣāḥib).
Some individuals objected, arguing that money raised specifically for mosque construction cannot be used for any other purpose. This has led to division among the villagers.
Kindly clarify:
➤ Can funds raised for mosque construction be given to religious scholars or used elsewhere?
➤ Was the expenditure in this case justified?
✔ Both mosque construction and tablīghī gatherings are virtuous causes. If there is surplus in the mosque construction fund, it is permissible to spend from it on a tablīghī event, particularly if such a gathering is related to mosque activities or aimed at promoting the mosque.
✦ “If the tablīghī gathering is associated with the mosque’s development or support, then spending from the mosque fund carries no objection.”

This is my view, and Allah knows best what is correct.
To prevent disputes and misunderstandings, it is recommended to collect a separate donation specifically for tablīghī gatherings and other activities.
This ensures transparency and maintains trust among the committee members and contributors.
➤ Permissible: Using surplus mosque construction funds for tablīghī gatherings — if linked to mosque promotion.
➤ Not advisable without clarity: Always best to allocate funds separately for different causes to avoid community discord.
