❖ Question
Can magic be treated with magic?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
No, it cannot.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Avoid the seven destructive sins.”
The Companions (RA) asked: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What are they?
He ﷺ replied:
① Associating partners with Allah.
② Practicing magic.
③ Killing a soul without just cause.
④ Consuming usury.
⑤ Consuming the wealth of orphans.
⑥ Turning back on the day of battle.
⑦ Accusing chaste believing women of adultery.
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Waṣāyā, Bāb Qawl Allāh Taʿālā)
Thus, practicing magic is among the major deadly sins, and it is not permissible to use it even with the intention of treatment.
