Question:
Can a person touch the Qur’an without performing wudu?
Answer:
There is a difference of opinion among scholars on this issue. Some scholars are of the view that it is not permissible, while others allow it. However, the better and more respectful practice is to touch the Noble Qur’an only in a state of wudu.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“No one should touch the Qur’an except in a state of purity.”
(Muwatta Imam Malik, Book of the Qur’an, Chapter on the Command to Perform Wudu Before Touching the Qur’an; Al-Hakim 1/395–397)
