Ruling on Those Who Pray Only During Ramadan

Question:

What is the ruling on a person who is keen on fasting during Ramadan but only prays during Ramadan, and once Ramadan ends, he abandons Salah? Will his fasts be accepted?

Answer:

Salah – The Most Important Pillar After Shahadah
  • After the testimony of faith (Shahadah), Salah is the most important pillar of Islam.
  • It is a Fard ‘Ayn (individual obligation) upon every Muslim.
  • Abandoning Salah due to denial or laziness is an act of disbelief (Kufr).

The Condition of Those Who Pray Only in Ramadan

  • Those who fast in Ramadan but abandon Salah after it ends are deceiving Allah.
  • True faith (Iman) is not seasonal—one must worship Allah consistently, not just during Ramadan.
  • Such people are among the worst, as they only recognize Allah during Ramadan and turn away from Him afterward.
Their fasting is neither valid nor accepted, because a person who abandons Salah becomes a disbeliever, and a disbeliever's actions are not accepted by Allah.

Quranic Evidence:

Allah warns about those who perform acts of worship with inconsistency and hypocrisy:

"So woe to those who pray, but who are heedless of their prayer."
(Surah Al-Ma'un: 4-5)

Allah also says about disbelievers:

"And We shall turn to whatever deeds they did, and We shall make them scattered dust."
(Surah Al-Furqan: 23)

Thus, fasting without praying outside Ramadan holds no value in Islam.

Conclusion:

  • Salah is a fundamental requirement for fasting to be accepted.
  • Abandoning Salah after Ramadan renders the fast invalid and unacceptable.
  • True faith requires consistency in worship, not just seasonal devotion.
