❖ Question:

Are those who accuse Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of adultery considered disbelievers (kuffār)?

✿ Answer:

Yes, whoever accuses Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of adultery is a disbeliever (kāfir). Her innocence and chastity have been affirmed in:

  • The Noble Qur’an
  • Authentic Aḥādīth
  • Narrations from the Companions (Ṣaḥābah)

❀ Scholarly Consensus:

❖ The scholars from the Abbasid era held a consensus:

من سب سيدتنا عائشة رضي الله عنها فلا حظ له فى الإسلام
“Whoever reviles our Lady ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها has no share in Islam.”

📚 al-Muntaẓam fī Tārīkh al-Mulūk wa al-Umam by Ibn al-Jawzī: 15/281 – Authentic chain

❀ Classical Scholarly Opinions:

Imām Abū Isḥāq al-Shīrāzī رحمه الله (d. 476H) said:

“There is a consensus among Muslims that the verse of slander (Qadhf) applies universally, even though it was revealed specifically regarding ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها.”
📚 al-Tabsirah fī Uṣūl al-Fiqh, p. 146

Imām al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله (d. 671H) explained:

In reference to the verse:

﴿يَعِظُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ تَعُودُوا لِمِثْلِهِ أَبَدًا﴾
📖 Surah al-Nūr: 17
“Allah warns you never to repeat something like this ever again.”

He said:
This refers specifically to ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها, because such slander affects the honor of the Prophet ﷺ and his pure household, and thus it is an act of disbelief (kufr).
📚 Tafsīr al-Qurṭubī: 12/205

Qāḍī Abū Yaʿlā al-Ḥanbalī رحمه الله (d. 458H) said:

“Whoever accuses ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of what Allah has absolved her from is a kāfir – without any difference of opinion.”
📚 al-Ṣārim al-Maslūl by Ibn Taymiyyah, p. 566

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله (d. 728H) stated:

“Multiple scholars have transmitted the consensus (ijmāʿ) on this matter, and many Imāms have explicitly ruled this way.”
📚 al-Ṣārim al-Maslūl ʿalā Shātim al-Rasūl, p. 566

✅ Conclusion:

✔ Accusing Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of adultery is a direct denial of clear Qur’anic revelation,
✔ It constitutes an act of disbelief (kufr) by unanimous agreement of scholars.
✔ Anyone who commits this grave slander has no share in Islam.
