Are those who accuse Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of adultery considered disbelievers (kuffār)?
Yes, whoever accuses Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of adultery is a disbeliever (kāfir). Her innocence and chastity have been affirmed in:
❖ The scholars from the Abbasid era held a consensus:
من سب سيدتنا عائشة رضي الله عنها فلا حظ له فى الإسلام
“Whoever reviles our Lady ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها has no share in Islam.”

❖ Imām Abū Isḥāq al-Shīrāzī رحمه الله (d. 476H) said:
“There is a consensus among Muslims that the verse of slander (Qadhf) applies universally, even though it was revealed specifically regarding ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها.”

❖ Imām al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله (d. 671H) explained:
In reference to the verse:
﴿يَعِظُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ تَعُودُوا لِمِثْلِهِ أَبَدًا﴾
Surah al-Nūr: 17
“Allah warns you never to repeat something like this ever again.”
He said:
This refers specifically to ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها, because such slander affects the honor of the Prophet ﷺ and his pure household, and thus it is an act of disbelief (kufr).

❖ Qāḍī Abū Yaʿlā al-Ḥanbalī رحمه الله (d. 458H) said:
“Whoever accuses ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها of what Allah has absolved her from is a kāfir – without any difference of opinion.”
