Ruling on the Salah of Drivers Who Are Frequently Traveling

Written by: Sheikh Mubashir Ahmad Rabbani (Hafizahullah)

Question:

Drivers who spend most of their time traveling—should they perform Qasr Salah (shortened prayer) or complete their prayers in full? Kindly provide clarification.

Answer:

A driver who is constantly on the move and remains in a state of travel is considered a traveler (musafir). Therefore, he must perform Qasr Salah (shortened prayer) as per the rules of travel in Islam.

However, when he returns to his home, he is no longer a traveler and should perform his prayers in full (without Qasr), as he is then considered a resident (muqim).
