Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

◈ Question:

What is the ruling on the narration of a majhūl (unknown) narrator?

◈ Answer:

The narration of a majhūl narrator is weak, and it is not permissible to use it as proof.

❀ Statement of the Scholars

Imam Ibn al-Mundhir رحمه الله (319 AH):
“It is not permissible to use the hadith of a majhūl as proof, for it is like a disconnected (munqaṭiʿ) narration through which proof cannot be established.”
(الأوسط: 2/222)

✅ Conclusion:
A narration transmitted by a majhūl narrator is considered weak and cannot be relied upon as evidence in matters of Sharīʿah.
