Zaid replied, ‘Yes.’
Mu'awiyah asked, ‘What did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do?’
Zaid replied, ‘He led the Eid prayer and granted concession for Jumu'ah, saying: ‘Whoever wishes may perform it, and whoever wishes may not.’”

Question:
If Eid falls on a Friday, is there a Shariah-based concession for not performing the Jumu'ah prayer?Answer:
Yes, if Eid falls on a Friday, the Eid prayer will be performed, and there is an option (Rukhsah) regarding the Jumu'ah prayer. Whoever wishes to perform Jumu'ah can do so, and whoever does not wish to attend is exempt.Evidence from the Hadith:
1. Hadith of Zaid bin Arqam (رضي الله عنه):
Iyās bin Abi Ramla narrates:“In my presence, Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (رضي الله عنه) asked Zaid bin Arqam (رضي الله عنه), ‘Did you witness two Eids (Jumu'ah and Eid) falling on the same day with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?’
(Sunan Abi Dawood, Kitab al-Salah: Bab Iza Wafaqa Yawm al-Jumu'ah Yawm Eid, Hadith No. 1070)
2. Hadith of Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنهما):
Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنهما) narrates:“During the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), two Eids coincided on the same day. The Prophet (ﷺ) led the Eid prayer and then said: ‘Whoever wishes to perform Jumu'ah may do so, and whoever wishes to remain behind may stay behind.’”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab Iqamat al-Salawat: Bab Ma Ja’a Fi Majtama’ al-Eidain, Hadith No. 1312)
3. Statement of Ali (رضي الله عنه):
Ali (رضي الله عنه) said:“Two Eids have fallen on the same day. Whoever wishes to perform Jumu'ah may do so, and whoever prefers to stay (at home) may remain.”
(Musannaf ‘Abd al-Razzaq, Kitab al-Salah: Bab fi al-Eidain Yajtema’an, Hadith No. 5838)
