✦ Deviation from the Shari'ah of Muhammad ﷺ and Supporting Disbelievers Against Muslims ✦
Supporting the polytheists against Muslims, seeking their help, or strengthening them in any way is considered clear disbelief (صریح کفر).
(Al-Ma'idah 51)
“O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and Christians as allies. They are allies to one another. Whoever among you allies with them is surely one of them. Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoers.”
“يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا بِطَانَةً مِّن دُونِكُمْ”
(Aal-e-Imran 118)
“O you who believe! Do not take as confidants those other than yourselves.”
These verses clearly indicate that befriending or trusting disbelievers is against the essence of faith.
Any kind of support to disbelievers—whether it be:
– Financial assistance
– Physical strength or manpower
– Strategic advice or consultation
– Participation in warfare against Muslims
– Defending them through speech or weapon
All of these actions are contrary to Iman, and are unlawful and forbidden.
Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported:
– Some Muslims of Makkah fought on the side of the polytheists during the Battle of Badr.
– When they were killed by Muslim swords or arrows, the companions felt sorrow.
Then the following verse was revealed:
(An-Nisa 97)
“Indeed, those whom the angels take in death while wronging themselves—they say: ‘In what condition were you?’ They reply: ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ The angels respond: ‘Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?’ For such, their abode is Hell—and what an evil destination.”
(Bukhari: 4596)
– Sharing Muslim information with disbelievers
– Plotting conspiracies against Muslims
– Trying to aid disbelievers in overpowering Muslims
These are acts of explicit disbelief, and whoever engages in them exits the fold of Islam.
Whoever holds the belief that some individuals are exempt from following the Shari'ah of Muhammad ﷺ—similar to how Khidr was exempt from following the Shari'ah of Musa (عليه السلام)—is indeed a disbeliever.
The Prophet ﷺ once drew a line with his hand and said:
“This is the path of Allah.”
Then he drew lines to the right and left and said:
“These are the paths of the devils.”
Then he recited the verse:
“وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ”
(Al-An’am 153)
“And indeed, this is My straight path, so follow it, and do not follow [other] ways, for they will separate you from His way.”
(Musnad Ahmad, Ibn Majah – Al-Muqaddimah 11 – Shaykh al-Albani graded it Sahih)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“All of my Ummah will enter Paradise except the one who refuses.”
The companions asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Who will refuse?”
He replied:
“Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused.”
(Bukhari: 7280)
Some individuals distinguish between Shari’ah and Tareeqah, claiming:
– Shari’ah applies to the common people
– But the “awliya” (friends of Allah) are exempt from it
This belief is disbelief, because:
– No one can attain Paradise without obeying the Messenger ﷺ
– The concept of being free from the Shari’ah is false and invalid
Some use the incident of Khidr and Musa (عليهما السلام) to justify rejection of the Shari'ah of Muhammad ﷺ, but this is incorrect, because:
– Khidr (عليه السلام) was not obligated to follow Musa (عليه السلام),
– Musa (عليه السلام) was sent specifically to Bani Israel.
Ubayy ibn Ka'b (رضي الله عنه) reported:
Khidr said to Musa:
“I am upon knowledge which Allah has taught me, and you are upon knowledge which Allah has taught you.”
(Bukhari: 3401, Muslim: 2380)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent to all of mankind.
“قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا”
(Al-A’raf 158)
“Say: O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all.”
There is no salvation through any path other than his Shari'ah.
① Ummah of Ijābah – Those who obey the Messenger ﷺ
② Ummah of Da’wah – Those who disobey the Messenger ﷺ
He states:
Some say: The Shari’ah applies only to those who are not “gnostics” (ʿārifīn).
As for those who attain “gnosis” and become “awliya”, Shari’ah no longer applies to them.
This notion is false, and such individuals are either:
– Fussāq (open sinners)
– Murtaddūn (apostates)
– Munāfiqūn (hypocrites)
– Or outright disbelievers
There are two major reasons:
① Khidr (عليه السلام) acted upon divine inspiration by Allah’s will, not outside the bounds of Shari’ah. To think otherwise is disbelief and ignorance.
② Some claim that certain “awliya” are exempt from Shari’ah due to divine “kashf” (unveiling), and even regard them superior to prophets.
Such beliefs are rooted in disbelief, hypocrisy, and misguidance.
– The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent to all people
– All other prophets will follow his Shari’ah
– When ʿIsa (عليه السلام) returns, he will rule by the Shari’ah of Muhammad ﷺ
“Every Prophet was sent to his own people, but I have been sent to all of mankind.”
(Bukhari: 335, Muslim: 521)
– No one is exempt from the Shari’ah of Muhammad ﷺ
– Whoever believes otherwise is a disbeliever
– The story of Khidr and Musa is not an exception or evidence
– Allah has made the Shari’ah of Muhammad ﷺ obligatory until the Day of Judgment
