Ruling on Selling Alcohol and Pork to Non-Muslims

Islamic Ruling on Selling Alcohol and Pork to Non-Muslims

❖ Prohibition of Selling Alcohol and Pork to Non-Muslims

It is not permissible to engage in trade involving prohibited consumables, such as alcohol and pork, even with non-Muslims. This ruling is grounded in the clear and authentic saying of the Prophet ﷺ:

«إن الله إذا حرم شيئا حرم ثمنه»
“Indeed, when Allah prohibits something, He also prohibits its price.”
[Musnad Aḥmad 1/293; Bulūgh al-Marām, 318]

This indicates that the sale price of anything ḥarām (forbidden) is also ḥarām.

Comprehensive Curse on All Involved with Alcohol

Additionally, there is a narration that further clarifies the gravity of the matter. The Prophet ﷺ cursed all those involved in any way with alcohol, including:

✔ The one who produces it
✔ The one who has it produced
✔ The one who sells it
✔ The one who buys it
✔ The one who drinks it
✔ The one who serves it
✔ The one who has it served to him
✔ The one who carries it
✔ The one for whom it is carried
✔ The one who consumes its price

[Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 3674; Sunan Ibn Mājah, 3380]

This hadith demonstrates that any form of involvement with alcohol—whether direct or indirect—is subject to divine curse, regardless of whether the transaction is with a Muslim or a non-Muslim.

Conclusion:
Engaging in the sale or trade of alcohol and pork, even to non-Muslims, is explicitly ḥarām. Not only is the act itself forbidden, but so is profiting from these items, due to the clear guidance of the Prophet ﷺ.
