❖ Question
In the Iqāmah, when the muʾadhdhin says "Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh", is it correct to reply "Aqāmahā Allāhu wa Adāmahā"?
Are the ḥadīths presented on this matter authentic? Please clarify with reference to authentic narrations.
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
◈ Weak Narration
- The narration cited for saying "Aqāmahā Allāhu wa Adāmahā" in reply to Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh is not authentic, but weak (ḍaʿīf).
- Its weakness has been discussed in detail in Tuḥfat al-Aḥwadhī.
◈ Evidence from General Aḥādīth
- Authentic narrations indicate that upon hearing the words of the Adhān or Iqāmah, the listener should repeat the same words as spoken by the muʾadhdhin.
- Therefore, when hearing Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh, one should also reply with "Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh".
◈ Proof from Ḥadīth
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Mithlu mā yaqūlu"
"Repeat just as he (the muʾadhdhin) says."
This shows that the listener must repeat the exact words.
◈ Exceptional Case
- In Adhān, when hearing ḥayya ʿala al-ṣalāh and ḥayya ʿala al-falāḥ, the listener replies:
"Lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata illā billāh". - This exception is established by authentic ḥadīth.
- But for Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh, no authentic exception exists.
Conclusion
Based on authentic narrations, it is not correct to say "Aqāmahā Allāhu wa Adāmahā" in response to Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh.
The correct Sunnah is to reply with the same words: "Qad qāmat al-ṣalāh".
"ھذا ما عندي والله أعلم بالصواب"
