âť– Question
Respected scholar, I suffer from the issue of urine drops. What is the ruling for me in terms of Salah? Do I need to perform Wudu repeatedly, or can I continue with one Wudu? Also, what is the ruling regarding clothing, as there’s a possibility that drops may fall on the clothes?❖ Answer
If, after performing Wudu, there is a sufficient interval before the urine drops start—enough to complete the Salah—then a new Wudu is required once the drops begin. However, if the interval is shorter than that, then the ruling is similar to that of a woman experiencing Istihada (non-menstrual bleeding). In that case, one should perform Wudu for each prayer time and offer the prayer. The same applies going forward.
(Reference: Bukhari, Book of Wudu, Chapter on Washing Blood)
To protect the body and clothes from drops, it is recommended to use a cloth pad or covering. In the first case, remove the cloth pad at prayer time, perform Istinja, do Wudu, pray, and then reapply the pad. In the second case, follow the ruling of Istihada.
âśż Example from Hadith:
If a person continuously suffers from urine drops, he should perform Wudu for each prayer, and that Wudu will count as his purification. Therefore, he can even lead prayers. This is analogous to the case of the woman suffering from Istihada, as mentioned in the case of Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh.
The Prophet (ď·ş) said to her:
"When it is the blood of menstruation—which is dark and recognizable—then stop praying. But when it is the other type (Istihada), then perform Wudu and pray, for it is just a vein."
(Abu Dawood, Book of Purification; al-Nasa’i, Book of Menstruation and Istihada)
Just as the woman in Istihada is required to perform Wudu and pray (since that Wudu is her purification), similarly, the man suffering from constant urine drops should do Wudu for each prayer and not abandon Salah.
