Islam has prescribed a method for beginning any good and beneficial endeavor, which is Istikhārah. That is, one should perform two units of prayer after making wuḍū’, then recite the supplication of Istikhārah, and thereafter proceed with the work with effort, focus, and sincerity, while avoiding reprehensible traits such as adulteration, fraud, deception, and harsh conduct. In this way, Allah Almighty will grant goodness and blessings.
However, it is authentically established that when the Companions رضي الله عنهم would see the first fruits of the season, they would bring them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He would take them in his hands and supplicate to Allah:
In another narration in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (1373/474), it is mentioned that whichever of the children present was the youngest, he ﷺ would give the fruit to that child.
From these authentic narrations, it is understood that when something is newly initiated, one should go to a righteous and pious person and have them supplicate for blessings. Likewise, when new fruit is produced, supplication should be made over it and it should be given to the youngest child.

Question
What is the ruling on cutting a ribbon for the inauguration of a shop or similar establishment?Answer
Tying a ribbon first and then inviting an influential person to recite Bismillāh and cut the ribbon for the inauguration of a shop, factory, or office is not established from any authentic ḥadīth or from the reports of the Companions. Nor is there any real benefit in this practice. Rather, it is merely the result of blind imitation of non-Muslims.Islam has prescribed a method for beginning any good and beneficial endeavor, which is Istikhārah. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would call the youngest child present and give those fruits to him.“O Allah! Grant blessing in our fruits, grant blessing in our city, grant blessing in our ṣāʿ, and grant blessing in our mudd. O Allah! Indeed, Ibrāhīm عليه السلام was Your servant, Your close friend, and Your Prophet, and I am also Your servant and Your Prophet. He supplicated to You for Makkah, and I supplicate to You for Madīnah with the same supplication.”
