Is it permissible to perform Salāt al-Janāzah (funeral prayer) for the same deceased person a second time?
(Questioner: Sājid, Biyāṛ, Kohistān)
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʾAmma baʿd!
A narration recorded in Sharḥ Maʿānī al-Āthār by Imām al-Ṭaḥāwī (رحمه الله) from ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Zubayr (رضي الله عنه) states:
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered on the Day of Uḥud that Ḥamzah (رضي الله عنه) be wrapped in a cloak. Then he prayed over him and said nine takbīrs. Thereafter, the other martyrs were brought and arranged in rows, and the Prophet ﷺ prayed over them and over Ḥamzah along with them again."
