Is Reciting Ta‘awwudh After Yawning Permissible?
Taken from: Fatāwā Amanpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amanpuri
Is it correct to recite Ta‘awwudh (أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم) after yawning?
Reciting Ta‘awwudh after yawning is not legislated in Shari‘ah. However, if someone does recite it, there is no harm, since yawning is from Shaytan.
❀ Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
أما التثاؤب، فإنما هو من الشيطان، فليرده ما استطاع، فإذا قال: ها، ضحك منه الشيطان
Yawning is from Shaytan, so one should try to restrain it as much as possible. When a person yawns and says “Ahh,” Shaytan laughs at him.
