﴿إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ﴾
“Indeed, to Us is their return. Then indeed, upon Us is their account.”
Narrated by ‘A’ishah رضي الله عنها:
“The Prophet ﷺ used to say in some of his prayers: ‘O Allah, reckon me with an easy reckoning.’ I (‘A’ishah) asked: ‘What is an easy reckoning?’ He ﷺ replied: ‘That Allah looks into the record and pardons the sins.’”
[Musnad Ahmad – Authenticated by Shaykh Albani رحمه الله]
There is no authentic evidence that the Prophet ﷺ ever recited this du‘a specifically after completing Surah al-Ghashiyah.
✔ The common practice of saying it at the end of the Surah—especially due to the last verses about reckoning—is not based on any reliable narration.
This practice has become widespread among people based on custom, not on Sunnah, and should therefore be avoided.
✘ But reciting it specifically after Surah al-Ghashiyah is not from the Sunnah, and refraining from such fixed placement is preferred.
❖ Question:
What is the ruling on saying the du‘a اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً at the end of Surah al-Ghashiyah, especially after the verses:﴿إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ﴾
“Indeed, to Us is their return. Then indeed, upon Us is their account.”
❖ Answer:
The du‘a اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً (“O Allah, take my account with an easy reckoning”) is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ.
❖ However:

✔ The common practice of saying it at the end of the Surah—especially due to the last verses about reckoning—is not based on any reliable narration.

❖ Conclusion:
✔ The du‘a اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً is authentic and was used by the Prophet ﷺ in some prayers.✘ But reciting it specifically after Surah al-Ghashiyah is not from the Sunnah, and refraining from such fixed placement is preferred.
