❖ How Many Rakʿahs Are in Qasr Prayer? ❖
Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri
Question:
How many rakʿahs are there in qasr (shortened) prayer?
Answer:
In qasr prayer, two rakʿahs are offered in Ẓuhr, ʿAṣr, and ʿIshāʾ. There is no qasr in Maghrib and Fajr prayers; both must be prayed in full.
❀ Imām Ibn al-Mundhir رحمه الله (d. 319H) said:
أجمعوا على أن لا يقصر فى المغرب، ولا فى صلاة الصبح.
“The jurists are unanimous that there is no qasr in Maghrib and Fajr prayer.”
(al-Ijmāʿ: 60)

Qasr applies only to Ẓuhr, ʿAṣr, and ʿIshāʾ — reducing them to two rakʿahs. Maghrib (three rakʿahs) and Fajr (two rakʿahs) remain complete without qasr.
